About Katrina Darking
My goal, whether in Art Therapy or Analytic Psychotherapy, is in an increased level of emotional integration of the different conscious and unconscious aspects of the personality of each individual. I function as a sound and flexible container to allow this development to occur. My own analysis and training has provided me with an approach that is influenced by Jung, Klein and Bion. I aim to help the individuals I work with to understand themselves more deeply as they seek more truth and wholeness to become better able to manage the difficult realities of life.
I have experience of working in the fields of mental health, addiction, eating disorders, palliative care, those struggling with the residual difficulties of childhood trauma or mid-life change, disability and particularly with the elderly. I have worked with people who have suffered with anxiety, depression, loss, bereavement, low self-esteem, eating problems, poor motivation, feelings of emptiness or inferiority, or even a vague feeling that something is not as it should be.
For seven years I have worked as an honorary psychotherapist with individual patients within an NHS psychiatric unit. I am also employed within the NHS to facilitate a staff awareness group for a multi-disciplinary group of professionals. I am also working as an art therapist with the County Council Careers Department to run groups for young people with a variety of mental health problems.
