Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy offers the opportunity to work with a compassionate and non-judgemental person in a safe and confidential environment to integrate the lesser known parts of the personality. The pain from these parts may not have been heard but if these difficult aspects of the personality can be brought to awareness and understood and valued it offers the opportunity for transformation. This deeper understanding can provide an opportunity for changing previous self-destructive patterns of behaviour.
Confidence suffers when the past feelings associated with these deep wounds are unable to be expressed and understood. Once they are explored and brought to consciousness they can have a positive effect on life. Insight offers the potential for growth and decreases the sense of shame. It is a great relief to be accepted and understood and to have more energy available for living.
Dreams offer assistance in gaining access to the deeper levels of the psyche. They offer on-going material for the individuation process.
A sense of safety is achieved by confidentiality and the individual psychotherapist, a still, comfortable consulting room and a regular timetable of attendance. Sessions are initially once weekly but can be increased should it become necessary.
Although the initial meeting provides the opportunity to discuss difficulties and expectations, how the individuation process will proceed is not clear. Sometimes a short period of treatment is all that is necessary but deep-seated long standing problems may take a lengthy period to resolve.
